Situation
Anglepoise Ltd, a family SME, designed and sold their first Anglepoise lamp over 70 years ago. Faced with the challenges of market competition and escalating manufacturing costs in 2003 the CEO, Simon Terry, the founder's great great grandson, decided to downsize and focus the business on design.
Vision
Having made the important decision to focus on design, Anglepoise required a strategy to establish their international brand presence and grow their business.
How Catalyze helped
Following initial discussions with the Anglepoise CEO, Catalyze co-ordinated and facilitated a one-day decision conference involving the entire Anglepoise team. This was particularly challenging as the whole company was involved and as with many family businesses emotions and tensions ran high.
The Decision Conferencing process allowed the team to openly discuss, focus and resolve the real issues that faced the business. The context for the decision being made was discussed and defined and the team explored and identified the different scenarios.
This process was supported by Equity. The Anglepoise team provided data and judgements allowing the scenarios to be modelled and the options to be assessed. The team then used this model, with the help of Equity, to identify the preferred options and agree the strategy for the business.
